Soooo relaxing to watch these chickens 💜

The chickens at the Retreat Farmed Animal Sanctuary in Kent now live their lives their way.

They have all arrived from different places. some from school hatching projects, where eggs are watched as the chick inside develops, then they hatch...and the chickens are more than often sent back to the farm where the eggs came from. The breed of chicken will dictate what happens next.

If they turn out to be female they replicate their mothers lives by either becoming egg layers or being fattened up for meat to be eaten by humans. If they are male, they are killed

These chickens are safe 💜

As I got out of my car they gathered around...they could smell all the remedies!

Dried Yarrow...no, dried nettles...no, dried dandelion root...Hellooooo! 😃

They liked picking it out of my hand, dropping it on the floor, then cracking it to eat

Dandelion Root

Dandelion root contains Inulin, a substance that helps to regulate the blood sugar and therefore supports the pancreas. mind you depending on when its picked depends on how accessible the inulin is. Early in the year its more water soluble so could be obtained via crushing fresh roots. It also has a higher amount of sugar at this point

Later on in the year, the inulin becomes more solid, so its accessible via placing in hot water and drinking

These roots are dried, so I wonder how accessible the inulin is in this form, without being in hot water. I will offer both next time

Dandelion root is a powerful diuretic, so good for shifting excess fluid

It has the ability to breakdown kidney, liver and gall bladder stones, and supports their overall function, and it creates a mucilage coating so it's very soothing for digestive and urinary linings and is also a mild laxative

It also has blood thinning abilities

Because it improves the digestive system it automatically improves the skin

This is my area of interest over several years after moving my way thro hashimotos, thro discovering the simplicity and complexity (its simply complex!) of digestion and its impacts

Because of its impact on the digestive organs, they function better.

If the gall bladder, liver and pancreas are functioning efficiently, then they release digestive fluids. The gut needs bile to be released to enable it to release a functional amount of gut acid, to digest food in the gut.

Not enough bile, not enough gut acid = weakened oesophageal sphincter = acid reflux, digestive issues, malabsorption, parasites, joint issues, skin issues, behavioural issues

So Dandelion root...a common weed...is an amazing plant!

its interesting seeing the chicken in the middle closing their eyes, as they processed its affects

So their reason for ingesting it...? I'm not sure, but their bofy knows and that's all that matters

IMPORTANT

Do not put in your animals food. They MUST Self Select it. If their body needs it, they'll eat it by itself, and if your body needs it you'll enjoy it by itself too
